Why is it taking a week to get blood test results back?

I posted a previous question about maybe being pregnant. Two weeks after my missed period I went to see my general practitioner for a blood test. She wanted to test for pregnancy, diabetes, and my thyroid (since it runs in my family). When I left she told me she would give me a call in about 24 hours. I never got a call. That was a week ago. I understand doc’s offices are busy but ive been anxiously waiting for these results. Ive called the office and asked for her, but she doesnt have time to speak with patients so I just left a message for her to call me. Why would she wait so long to call me? If she needed more time to look at my results then why wouldnt she say so?

Not sure but you have the right to ask the secretary that you have been waiting on your results to determine if pregnant and it’s urgent. If on the other hand, the doctor found something that was not in any way urgent or in danger, she would not usually call right away.I would tell her if she gives you a hard time that you want to make an appointment again to see your doctor for your results, which you have that right.Sometimes, yes, they can be backlogged but if it was something wrong, they call you usually right away.Good luck.
