What is causing my increased output of urine?

I am a 26 year old male with no other significant health problems. The only problem I really have is seasonal allergies and sometimes anxiety issues (both of which are managable without medication).

I have a fairly healthy lifestyle. I don’t always have the best diet but I don’t eat fast food much. I also drink plenty of water and do not drink hardly any caffeine.

Since August 22, 2009, I have noticed a major increase in the number of times I have had to urinate. The strange thing is, when I feel the need, I actually do go quite a bit. I never have the feeling that I have to go but can barely go. At it’s worst, I’ve gone about 15-20 times in a 24 hour period.

I have also been waking up about 3-5 times during the night to go. Before this, it was always routine for me to wake up only 1 time to go.

My symptoms include:
Increased need to urinate and increased output
Sometimes a slight burning sensation in the urethra after voiding
Sometimes a slight discomfort in the bladder area
A feeling of pressure/discomfort around the rectal area
Sometimes pain in the perineum area after ejaculation (I have had this happen a few times quite a while ago but never had any other symptoms)

What I DO NOT have:
Increased thirst
High blood pressure, heart problems, or weight problems
Pain in the kidneys or pain in the urethra
Pain when ejaculating
Sudden strong urges to urinate that cannot be held (I can still hold it for hours if need be)
Weak urinary stream (it might be slightly weaker than it was some years ago but I really wouldn’t consider it abnormal)
Difficulty starting stream or dribbling after voiding
Blood in urine (my urine is always fairly clear - but never watery)
Any other symptoms related to diabetes insipidus
Difficulty with bowel movements

I went to the doctor on August 26 and they did a urinalysis. Everything checked out fine. They also performed a chylmedia/gonorrhea swab. That was negative as well.

After the visit, the symptoms still persisted.

I went back to the doctor on September 8. My doctor did a digital rectal exam to feel my prostate. He said it was boggy and said I probably have prostatitis. I have been taking meds since then but have found no relief yet.

Does prostatitis cause such an increased output of urine? I really don’t get it. I know I have some of the symptoms but this one really confused me and is getting annoying.

It is worth mentioning that my symptoms seem to wax and wane. For instance, I had a few days during these past weeks that my urinary output/frequency was near normal. However, I was still waking up far too frequently at night.
