Don't confuse detox with a healthy diet....

Most people have a very bad understanding of what makes a healthy diet - they all seem to practice one extreme or the other...

First thing - get rid of all those sugary cereals that kids eat for breakfast. In fact, get rid of most pre-packaged food....because its all tends to be high in fat and sodium, and very low in actual nutrition.

Second - get reasonable with portion sizes...lots of people tend to think that a serving of meat is a steak - WRONG!!!! its the size of a deck of playing cards. A "single serving 99 cent bag of chips is actually 3 servings if you read the fine print.....A serving of juice for a child that age is 4 ounces - not a drinking glass....portion sizes are one area where people tend to take in way too many calories.

I could type a whole lot - but I went and did a search through some databases that I'm familiar with, and I think link contains so many useful links that its scary - risks of childrens weight issues, portion sizes, dietary advice for children, tips for parents, etc....
I would encourage you to poke around there for a while - and its all very sound advice....

Good Luck

Try a gradual lifestyle change not a dramatic one. When serving put vegetables first, meat/protein second then cards/starch last. Fruits are a food way for children to get vitamins and fiber and sugar, so you may want to pack their lunch with alot of fruit. Parents teach their children how to eat so don't stress over it otherwise she will see the stress. In your free time make a plan for dinner instead of just making something last minute and ask her to help you also so that she can learn about the nutrition in what she is eating. Also try:

I think there may be some misunderstanding... detoxing with fruits and veggies doesn't help weight loss. The most you would really do is give her the runs for a few days (which could be more embarrassing if it happened during school) and clean out her colon. Any weight she might lose would be gained back within a few days when the feces are replenished by normal digestion.

If you are concerned about her weight, I would bring her in for a consultation with a nutritionist or dietitian to see what diet and exercise regimen would be most beneficial for your daughter. Cleaning the colon is seldom helpful for long-term weight loss or losing "baby weight".
Also, exercise is going to be required for any solid, long-term weight loss... it's also a really good (and safe) way to lose weight. Unfortunately there's no magic pill that will make anyone lose weight while they sit on the couch. HOWEVER, exercise doesn't have to be anything proper or official, you don't need to go to a gym, wear certain clothes, and you don't have to be around people who are in better shape. Exercise can be done while you're working/playing, watching TV, and even just doing everyday tasks... you can even help her by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, park at the far end of the parking lot, let her run outside while playing with friends, or even work various muscles together during the commercials when you watch TV (crunch your abs, stand up repeatedly, lift pop bottles or some sort of weight, etc). It doesn't have to be "typical exercise".
Good luck and I hope I helped!
